Weaning off swaddling

February 15, 2010

And by weaning off, I mean me.  I just walked into Bee’s room to answer her call of distress during a nap, to discover she had managed to unswaddle herself and flip from her back to her tummy.  This is great news at 3 months – and I’ve been expecting it since her very early good head and neck control has contributed to a few near miss attempts during play over the past week or so.  However, they don’t recommend swaddling babies once they can roll onto their tummies, which means Mummy will need to find another way to get Lady G off to sleep other than the ever so reliable swaddle with her Merino Kids cocooi.  I might experiment with wrapping her below her arms, so she still feels secure, but can use her arms to push up if she needs it.  I’m going to have to watch her like a hawk from now on!  Time to baby-proof the house I think.

damn, that is one fancy swaddler! we just use regular blankets. louise has been exercising some impressive head control for a newborn, maybe it’s because she’s got kind of a small head!
