8,764 hours to go

February 19, 2010

Day three of Battle Growth Spurt, and Iron Mamma finally cracked and called the Maternal and Child Health Line (for those of you in Victoria Australia it’s a free service available by calling 13 22 29) to get a second opinion about what could be going on.  The basic advice (besides keeping an eye out for a blocked nose, thrush and moving teeth) was – and you know I should know this  –  to just relax and let her dictate the pace.  Silly Mummy.

Since little has changed in her routine, it’s likely that she’s just getting older and more aware of her situation, and trying to exercise a little control over the proceedings (which explains pushing me away with all her might while doing babyfishmouth at me).  The nurse suggested that if she resists a feed, don’t push it on her, and go off and do something else (although not to let it go past 3-4 hours).  So we’ve headed off to a cafe for brunch and a walk, and had a play today instead of trying to get a feed in, and she’s been very co-operative when she really needs to eat.  Yay!

I’m sure I’ll get this one day.  If according to Malcolm Gladwell we can become experts at something through 10,000 hours of practice, given 12 hours a day on the job I should be a parenting expert in exactly 2 years time.
