You know earworms – those random songs that get stuck in your head and go round and round driving you crazy.  It’s bad enough when it’s a pop song – let alone a kids’ rhyming song with a simple tune and even more inane lyrics.  For that reason I am trying to make this a Wiggles-free house (all you mums of older kids laugh at me now!).  I don’t necessarily want adult songs kiddifed (see A Little Pregnant for why that is a bad idea) but the options for kids songs that won’t drive me crazy from repeated listening are few and far between.

So far I have a playlist including some They Must be Giants, Philadelphia Chickens and a blast from the past with Danny Kaye’s Hans Christian Andersen.  Come on, we all love Ugly Duckling and The Kings New Clothes, don’t we??  Anyone??

Is there anything else which I should be downloading for our listening pleasure?

You are a better parent than me. We’re still jamming out to hootchie music here.

I say you can’t go wrong with a bit of old school Disney – “The Rescuers”, “Bedknobs and Broomsticks”, “Mary Poppins”, “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”….
The lyrics may be beyond Missy G for a while, but the harmonies are lovely.
