Happy birthday

Happy birthday to Candice Reed, Australia’s first IVF baby who turns 30 today.  What was groundbreaking 30 years ago is now relatively commonplace, with 1 in 33 babies born in Australia a result of IVF – that’s one in every classroom.

Disappointing that the news story on the 7PM Project today (from 4.35) focused on the fact that assisted conception is being used by women are choosing to have babies later in life, rather than on the thousands of families for whom it is their only chance at the family they want.

Why do they have to add that “age” factor in to the story? The reality is, at least for most of us, that it wouldn’t matter when we tried to conceive, it wouldn’t work anyway. Grrr… And, I had plenty of unprotected sex in my twenties (with my hubby) and didn’t get pregnant then either.

By the way, the title of your blog had me at “hello” – brilliant. ICWL

I thought that too when I was watching it. Pretty disappointed actually in the way they brought up the “designer baby” argument yet again. Actualy they came off sounding pretty ignorant…or perhaps I am just too critical!
