Is this thing on?

November 15, 2010

Oops, it seems like it’s been a while since I last posted!  Real life getting in the way, and all of that.  I’m finding working 3 days over 4 is proving to be harder than I thought.  Not the 2 days in the office, but the 2 half days I work.  A pattern is forming whereby I spend every waking moment on those days either working (and longer than I should), dealing with The Bee, or housework; and I’m finding it exhausting.

So the plan is that in the new year The Baron will ‘work’ (his inverted commas, not mine!) a day from home and I’ll go into the office for the extra day, and look to add a 4th day around about mid year when Miss N’s mum is keen on an extra day of nanny care too.

Also, we’ve decided to get a cleaner in, so that I don’t spend my weekends running around in a blind panic trying to clean everything for the start of the week again while The Baron minds the baby.  Instead, we can spend a little quality time together as a family especially as the weather heats up.

It’s already looking great – and Thursday mums’ group is turning into an all day event with a morning session followed by lunch and then a play in the park.  It’s so lovely to see the kids roaming around enjoying being outside (especially since they seem to have passed the put everything in their mouths stage, thank goodness!)

A cleaner makes a lot of sense. We have found that it is a worthwhile investment in maintaining our sanity! And if you don’t love cleaning, why not go earn money doing something you enjoy, and then spend it on the cleaner!

Just remember that you are going back to work to ge ta bit of life balance, don’t look at the economics of it. I say this because the childcare + cleaner may well add up to more than you are earning at the dayjob 😦
