And now, a subject close to my heart

December 8, 2010

Lady G is 13 months today, and has been walking like a champ for the past month or more, so we finally took her into a shoe store for a proper shoe fitting.  And promptly found that with 11cm feet, pretty much every walking shoe (as opposed to the leather soled pre-walkers) is waaay too big for her.

We’re lucky that it’s almost summer so she’ll be barefoot around the house and at playgroup and at the park etc, but she really does need something for slightly more treacherous conditions like streets, cafes and (apparently) bus stops where a young man challenged me the other day about letting my kid out barefoot. Le sigh.

Interim solution is a pair of these sweet pre-walker Tip Toey Joeys – a fair amount of rubber on the sole for a pre-walker:

And Granny has been tasked with bringing over a pair of cute Hoof shoes from New Zealand when she arrives this week, many of which come in smaller sizes (and a small price too!).  The only question is which pair?  Bear in mind that her mamma has a bit of a thing for shoes, and might need to be physically restrained from buying more than a pair for her little bee!

I’m just gutted she’s got such small feet right now, since I have the most awesome pair of pre-walkers which are just a smidge too big, and I would love her to be able to wear them this summer.  Do you think I can get away with 2-3 pairs of socks to get them to fit??

I just want to say that I vote for the first two Hoofs, though they’re all adorable. I’m in Canada, so we don’t have them, though the Robeez we have for pre-walkers ( – sadly not available in Aus/NZ) are pretty cute too.

So jealous that you’re just entering summer, we’re just entering the freezing depths of winter here … brrr!

Yay, good taste, those are in fact the two pairs my Mum got her! Unfortunately even the very smallest sizes are still too big… But we’ll give it a month or two and I think she’ll be able to make use of them. We’re just lucky it’s summer here and barefoot is what all the cool kids are wearing these days.

According to their website they’re only stocked at one store in Melbourne and one in Perth. The Melbourne one has only limited stock (not the ones I wanted), but I didn’t check Perth. Given the popularity of Bobux over here, that smells like a business opportunity! They’re around NZ$40, and the Clarks et al are AU$60-70…
